We loved you Roger
Liebe Jazzfreunde,
es ist mir noch immer unmöglich in Worte zu fassen, wie traurig wir alle, nicht nur die Jazzszene, über den plötzlichen Verlust Roger Ciceros sind.
Meine Gedanken gelten seiner Familie, seiner Mutter und seinem Sohn. Roger ist so präsent, jetzt und in Zukunft, er war und ist einer von uns. Ohne ihn hätte Jazz in Deutschland ein deutlich untergeordneteres Verständnis in der Gesellschaft. Sein freundliches und sensibles Wesen war mir lieb und teuer. Roger und ich sind uns die letzten Jahre nicht andauernd begegnet, was ganz sicher auch unseren Kalendern geschuldet war. Doch immer wenn wir uns trafen, lag eine wunderbare Mitstreiterschaft für die gemeinsame Mission in der Luft. Ja, das trifft es wohl.
Wir sind damals gemeinsam im Bundesjazzorchester unter Peter Herbolzheimer aufgewachsen. Als großer Gesangs-Fan habe ich Roger immer positiv beneidet um seine Fähigkeit wirklich jeden Song den er flüchtig kannte scheinbar mühelos mit allen Stromschnellen und Herausforderungen zu meistern. Er hatte die Technik und noch viel wichtiger: Das gewisse Etwas – Talent! Und er hat wie sein Vater Eugen erfolgreich die Schnittmenge und Verbindung zu den Menschen gesucht, die Jazz als eher schwierige Musik empfanden und durch ihn lieben gelernt haben. Roger wird als Vorbild für künftige Generationen von Jazzmusikern fungieren. Denn Musik ist ewig, wenn sie gut ist. Und das war sie. Roger, wir sehen uns wieder, hören sowieso. Danke Dir für alles!

My new album NIGHTFALL coming soon!
Friends, I’m happy to finally share with you my new recording project. I recorded ‘Nightfall’ with my good friend and double-bass player Dieter Ilg and from today you can hear the first fruits of our work together on this, our debut recording. It was an amazing learning experience selecting and arranging beautiful songs for these two instruments, and I hope you are going to enjoy them. The full album comes out end of January.
